### Shift to Climate-Neutral Architecture

As Europe is moving closer to achieve its climate goals all industries need to bring down their emissions 55% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. With mycelium materials we don't need to wait decades—the solution is already in our hands.

Around 75% of EU buildings are inefficient. The target is to renovate 35 mln houses by 2030 for carbon neutrality of buildings. In cities like Paris and London, properties must meet specific energy standards to be rented or sold, a trend that’s becoming more common as we approach the Climate Goals deadline. This shift creates a significant market opportunity for renovation, particularly for sustainable insulation materials.
  
Mycelium-based insulation materials combine efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability. They perfectly demonstrate the circular economy by converting industrial byproducts into high-performing, eco-friendly materials.

Myceen started from the design sector while keeping its research focus on building materials where the mass scale application and impact lies. ### Pilot Factory and Mycelium Insulation Testhouse

In the next stage, Myceen will move into a pilot factory where it will develop and launch industrial production technology. This expansion will enable the company to broaden its product range and advance the commercialization of mycelium-based building materials - the company has several house producers and resellers waiting for the material.

In an upcoming project Myceen’s insulation materials are tested in a pilot house in collaboration with Timber Architecture Research Center ([PAKK](https://pakk.artun.ee/en)). The test house will be ready in autumn 2024 and mycelium insulation performance will be measured and compared with conventional materials. This will give necessary feedback to move forward with house producers who are already waiting in line.

The Museum of the Home in London’s East End provides a fascinating look into the evolution of domestic life. Dedicated to exploring and reimagining how we live, the museum offers valuable insights into the concept of home.

Myceen is proud to have contributed to the museum’s latest exhibition in the Innovo Room of the Future. In collaboration with Northumbria University’s Interaction Research Studio, we developed custom mycelium-based acoustic and insulation wall panels. Museum of the Home

In June 2024 [Tehnopol](https://www.tehnopol.ee/en/) in collaboration with [Cleantech Estonia](https://www.cleantechestonia.ee/) organised an event event that brought together start-ups and 120 honorary consuls from around the world to explore Estonia’s green technology sector. The conference focused on helping Estonian companies expand into international markets and attract investments. We had the opportunity to present our solution to the honorary guests.

Tehnopol is the largest science and business park in the Baltics, located in Tallinn, Estonia. It is dedicated to fostering cutting-edge technology entrepreneurship and advancing the sustainability of the Estonian economy by accelerating the growth of technology-driven businesses. Renowned companies like Skype and Starship Technologies are among its notable residents. Myceen is proud to have participated in Tehnopol’s acceleration program.

It aims to promote the development and use of new, eco-friendly materials by providing detailed information about various projects and their geographical locations.

Myceen in Wevux Material Database

High Ground, a cosy coffee and wine shop in Islington. You can find their entire basement space covered with our acoustic wall panels. 

The primary objectives were to improve the overall aesthetics of the basement and address acoustic issues, using natural materials that can integrate seamlessly with the ambience of the coffee shop.

As the client told, not only did they improve the acoustics, but they also elevated the overall design and ambiance of the space, earning daily admiration from their guests.

The exhibition Diplomacy of Space: The Interiors of Estonian Foreign Missions curated by Karin Paulus shows that alongside acknowledging the ingenuity of our diplomats, a country also establishes itself abroad through space – embassies, residences and other foreign missions.

 Diplomacy of Space at Estonian Museum of Architecture

The Venice Design Biennial is a prestigious design festival held in Venice every 2 years, running parallel to The Venice Biennale of Architecture. The 2023 edition was themed “Auto-Exotic”, which challenged traditional notions of exoticism and its evolution. 
The exhibition celebrated innovative design, pushing boundaries and questioning established norms.

Munich Creative Business Week is Germany’s largest design event, serving as an international showcase for the Bavarian creative and design industry. The theme of the event in 2023 was “Why Disruption Unleashes Creativity”, focusing on how radical changes can foster innovation and creativity.

Munich Creative Business Week

Myceen had the honour of presenting Singapore Blox at the Fuorisalone during **Milan Design Week**. Fluorisalone continues to host a variety of design-related activities, exhibitions and pop-up installations, design talks and workshops throughout the year.

The exhibition was organised by Isola Design and focused on the theme “Nothing Happens If Nothing Happens”, emphasising regeneration and sustainable design. Rather than merely showcasing sustainable design products, the exhibition aimed to inspire change by going beyond the ordinary. Designers and studios gathered to rethink, regenerate, and remediate, creating something truly impactful.

Changing our Footprint: en exhibition by Henning Larsen Architects, Aedes Architecture Forum, Berlin, 2023

Myceen was invited to be part of the exhibition and present mycelium-based materials and how these materials can be used in construction. The first exhibition took place in Berlin after which it travelled in the Europe.

This exhibition celebrates and introduces alternatives to conventional practices in architecture, including biogenic resources such as wood, straw, mycelium, as well as reused and upcycled materials. It addresses the construction industry’s outsized environmental footprint aiming to present a hopeful and optimistic path forward. It looks broadly at alternatives to conventional practice including topics like decarbonisation, 3D printing and design for disassembly.

B-Wise in Colossal

Myceen participated in Building Green in Copenhagen. Copenhagen has a warm spot in our hearts and it's always nice to be back. This time we showcased our mycelium-based building materials that attracted a lot of architects, builders and visitors. 

Building Green is an annual event in Copenhagen focusing on sustainable construction and architecture, bringing together over 8000 visitors, 130 speakers and 170 exhibitors. The theme in 2022 was “Towards Absolute Sustainability”, emphasising the importance of sustainable building practices and innovative materials.
